Allegories in the Inferno

The Inferno describes a journey that Dante, along with his guide Virgil, goes through different levels of the Heck. There are nine circles in tarnation, and sinners in every level will be condemned in order to crimes. That they receive punishments in chance with their sins. Dante's depiction of the Heck, including just how sinners happen to be punished plus the appearance of different levels, consists of many allegories that illustrate Dante's tips about the meaning of your life. I will provide three specific examples to exhibit what the allegories are and the intrinsic connotations.

At the outset of The Dolore, Dante expresses the clear allegorical objective of his poem. " Midway inside our life's voyage, I proceeded to go astray from the straight road and woke to find me alone within a dark wood” (Alighieri, l. 2). Simply by writing " our life's journey”, Dante links his own encounter to that coming from all people. The " darker wood” signifies sinful lifestyle in the world. These kinds of allegory shows one figure to represent every one of the humanity. Dante is showing not only his story but also that of all humanity. When he tries to find his approach following the light, three monsters (the leopard, the big cat, and the she-wolf) block his way. Three beasts stand for different kinds of sins. The Dante Encyclopedia parses the leopard as a image of fraudulence, the big cat as a sign of pleasure, and the she-wolf as a sign of avarice (Lansing, l. 87). Dante is forced to return to the forest when Virgil appears and wants to lead him for the Hell in order to go to the haven. In our lives, we meet problems, troubles, and problems. Those force us being depressed also commit sins. At this point, we should go back to see if we have better ways to solve it rather than choosing a wrong way. Naturally, it is extremely difficult for Dante to win the three monsters, so he makes a proper choice to return and follow Virgil to pass through the Hell, which can be planned by God.
