PORTION 1

For the purpose of English vocabulary teaching, instructors tend to make reference to four particular skills- studying, writing, speaking and being attentive. (Harmer, 2007)

Reading and listening are known as receptive skills. Quite a few processes require meaning to become derived from material that is becoming listened to or read. Speaking and publishing are known as productive skills. In the case of both of these processes language is actually developed. (Harmer 2007)

In order to develop receptive abilities, it is, therefore , natural which the teacher arranged a hearing or studying exercise intended for the students. Although there are apparent differences between listening and reading, the basic classroom procedure for both is comparable. (Harmer 2007)

This focus of this assignment is to determine the open skills that could be practised within a reading lessons. It is also the truth that the teacher has chosen the text and this it is traditional or course–book material. This type of teacher-directed studying is known as rigorous reading. (Harmer 2001) Three phases had been identified to allow the instructor to exploit a selected or approved text to develop reading skills, namely, the pre-reading, while-reading and followup (or post-reading) phases. (Williams 1996)

The pre-reading stage

This phase is necessary in order to create interest in this issue that the teacher is about to introduce. It also gives college students a reason to see. The pre-reading phase can be deemed the best time to bring in selected new vocabulary and language framework, which will essentially enable students to obtain sufficient understanding of the text. It is, nevertheless , considered counter productive to explain this is of every fresh word and structure throughout the pre-reading stage.
